Mommy and Daughter First Mani-Pedi with Piggy Paint & SOPHi Nail Polish!

I received these products at no cost to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

Ever paint your nails and get a terrible headache afterwards? I know I have and to make matters worse, the nail polish smell can hover in your house for quite a while too. I’m always having to turn on the bathroom fan, or open a window in our home to get rid of the smell. Another upsetting fact is that when I take off my old nail polish, my nails look yellow! Eww!… yet another indication that these products are filled with nasty, harsh chemicals that aren’t safe for me, or my child. And now that I am pregnant, and my daughter is wanting to paint her nails, I needed to come up with a safer solution for the both of us! Or maybe I should say, the three of us! Welcome to our lives, Piggy Paint and SOPHi! We love you already!

Piggy Paint was founded in 2008 by Melanie Hurley, a mom of two daughters who loved having their nails painted, but the chemicals and strong smell made her look for a safer alternative. In fact, the turning point happened one day while they were painting their nails over a foam plate. One of her daughters dropped a glob of her solvent-based polish onto the plate and the paint began to bubble and actually “ate” through the plate! (Click here to see the plate). Thanks to this scary scenario, Piggy Paint was born!

SOPHi by Piggy Paint is the “adult” version and allows health-conscious women to have a worry-free manicure and pedicure. They offer an advanced water-based formula that is also virtually odorless (just like Piggy Paint), as well as cruelty-free, and vegan. I absolutely love how it contains no harsh chemicals, is non-toxic and made in the USA!

Thanks to this awesome company, my daughter and I are going to have our first mani-pedi together! She’s never had her nails painted and has been asking me for a loooooong time to do so. I just didn’t want to put harsh chemicals on her tiny little growing hands (or feet) and was looking for a safer alternative. Thanks to Piggy Paint, I am ready to fulfill her nail painting dreams! I’ve also been off nail polish for a long time now, as I haven’t painted my nails once since becoming pregnant. After having two miscarriages, I became extra cautious about everything I put in and on my body. Thanks to SOPHi, I finally feel comfortable painting my nails.

My daughter loved all the variety of colors Piggy Paint has to offer! Some of the polishes have glitter and others are even scented! Of course, my daughter LOVES glitter and she had to give those a try too! With so many choices, your kids will flip for the variety!

I love all the beautiful shades that SOPHi offers women. The colors are feminine, vibrant, and elegant as well. You will certainly find a shade that compliments your skin tone and season to perfection. I know I couldn’t choose just one!

My little sweetpea couldn’t wait to get started and wanted to paint my nails right away! I picked out SOPHi’s “Morning Kisses” as it’s a pretty, light shade of pink and seemed like a fun neutral summer color. She had a blast being a “big girl” and painting mommy’s nails. After she was done, I did have to do a little touch up with a second coat and used the Piggy Paint Nail Polish Remover to tidy things up. Did you know that they also have a California version that has also passed their stringent testing? So awesome! That’s the one I used and it neatened up my nails like a charm!

She was having such a blast painting my fingernails that she wanted to go right to my toes for some more painting fun! I picked out SOPHi’s “#NoFilter” nail polish as it’s a bright shade of pink with a little bit of a berry look to it. It looked complimentary to my manicure that was just done and seemed like the perfect color for these end of summer days. My daughter had so much fun and felt like such a big girl painting my nails, but now that she was done painting my nails she could hardly contain herself… it was her turn!

She picked out a fun pinkish, mauve color called “Glamour Girl” for her toes from the Piggy Paint line. It has glitter and is oh-so-sparkly! Which is right up my daughter’s alley, that’s for sure! She was smiling from ear to ear as I painted her toes and was fascinated by the whole experience.

Then she picked out the “Radioactive” nail polish for her fingers nails. She was absolutely amazed that this nail polish would glow-in-the-dark! She couldn’t wait to test it out and see if it worked. It comes out as a nice clear coat with just a hint of a whitish/yellow pigment. This is nice as it’s a discrete color and if you aren’t into having your children’s nails painted, this is a nice compromise. Plus, since it glows in the dark, how can you go wrong?!

And the “Radioactive” nail polish worked great!! It wasn’t only her nails that were glowing… she was beaming with excitement!

My daughter and I had so much fun spending this girly time together. She has been wanting to paint her nails for so long, I knew I had to look for a safe alternative for her, myself, and this precious baby I am carrying. Thanks to Piggy Paint and SOPHi, I found it! Non-toxic, virtually odorless, and chemical free… you sold me! Definitely give them a try the next time you are looking to paint your nails. You will be happy you did!

  14. What great nail products. I am so glad someone came out with a polish that isn't so smelly. I have COPD and I am very sensitive to all things that have a strong scent. I will be checking these products out for myself and all of my granddaughters.
